2011 DCHSMB SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT

As announced at our rehearsal tonight, the 2011 show is titled:

"TUG OF WAR"

featuring music based on:
Wagner - "Ride of the Valkyries"
Dylan - "Blowin' in the Wind"
Tchaikovsky - "1812 Overture"

The show will be designed to musically and visually depict the conflict and resolution of war (mythical war, protest of war, patriotism, etc.). The visual presentation will focus on the literal meaning of "tug of war", beginning with the color guard pulling the band onto the field via a giant rope. The use of the rope will continue throughout the entire show, concluding with the band pulling the guard off the field, and there will be musical "tugging" going on as well (lots of tension & release, etc.) We're very excited to put it together for you, as we prepare for our performances that will culminate with our first ever visit to the Bands of America Grand Nationals!

This uniform will be used for the 4th of July parade, the band camp performance, and usually the first 2 to 3 football game performances.

SUMMER REHEARSALS

This is a reminder that we will be having rehearsal on June 13th, June 15th, June 27th, June 29th, and July 1st. These practices will be not only in preparation for the 4th of July parade, but also getting a head start on marching and music for the season. If you are in town for any or all of these rehearsals, it is strongly recommended that you attend.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Attached is a list of suggested private lesson teachers. We highly recommend private lessons to all of the Coffman band students - it is one of the single best ways to improve individual playing, which then directly impacts the band. If you have any questions regarding lessons, feel free to email a director.

EMERALD CITY MUSIC GAMES

The Dublin City Schools are pleased to present one of the 2011 premier musical events of the summer at Dublin Jerome High School. On July 5th, Emerald City Music Games will feature some of the best marching musical ensembles in the country. SCHEDULE

There were a few date errors in the original schedule that was passed out in the spring - the attached schedule should be correct. The main date to notice is the 4th of July Parade  - originally it was listed as being on July 2nd, but it is on Monday July 4th.
